The symposium "Rhetorics and Scenarios" will cast light on the complexity and the social and cultural significance of the phenomenon "Masochism".
The biographies of Leopold and Wanda von Sacher-Masoch, the work and the scenarios of masochistic phantasies and rituals will form the basis for a discourse through various academic discilines to define themes such as "gender and power", "sexual identity", "the masochistic body", "fetish" and "ritual", and others.
"Rhetorics and Scenarios" traces the phenomenon of masochistic phantasms in art and society at a cultural and academic level and will facilitate the elucidation of a philosophy of pain and pleasure from such an unbiased access to zones which are still taboo – from the most primal drives and their finest ramifications.
